Edward (‘Ed’) Falinksi, one of the most senior FX technologists at Barclays, is understood to have left the bank.
Sources say Falinksi left Barclays recently. His name is no longer on Barclays’ internal directory.
Falinksi, who is understood to have worked closely with James Hassett, Barclays’ longstanding head of FX trading, joined the British bank around 13 years ago from Dresdner. He was hired by Ivan Ritossa, the former global head of FX at Barclays, who left the firm in 2012.
Neither Falinski nor Barclays responded to a request to comment on the exit. It’s not clear what Falinski plans to do next.
Falinksi’s exit comes as Barclays has been strengthening its FX team with hires from Deutsche Bank. Jeremy Monnier, the former global head of FX structuring at DB joined this month. Fabio Nadar joined from Deutsche Bank in July.
Barclays is pursuing revenue growth in its global markets business. In August, Tolga Kirbay, a director in its emerging markets business, lost around $19m trading Turkish bonds. Research firm Coalition says G10 FX trading revenues rose 20% year-on-year in the first half of 2018.
